Green brings 15 years of legal and non-profit experience
Houston (September 3, 1008) – HoustonWorks USA (HoustonWorks) today announced the appointment of Larry V. Green, an experienced legal, non-profit and funding professional, as it’s new Chief Executive Officer.
In his new role, Mr. Green will serve as the Executive Director for the organization and will manage the oversight of HoustonWorks’ overall activities and budget.
Mr. Green, a Houston native, brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to his new role with more than 15 years of grants management, marketing and special events experience. Prior to joining HoustonWorks USA, Mr. Green led the Washington, DC office of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, serving as Vice President of Development and Government Affairs. Mr. Green’s performance in development was well recognized, and facilitated significant growth of the Marshall Fund’s annual revenue.
Mr. Green managed and was responsible for corporate, government sales and marketing teams. He directed foundation professional staff that supported Board initiatives aimed at securing substantial restricted and unrestricted revenue streams. He also worked as staff counsel on various legal matters. Mr. Green coordinated outside consultants and senior staff to develop a five year strategic plan for the Marshall Fund.
Additional professional highlights while with TMCF include:
• Acquired $11.4M in congressionally funded grants during the 110th Congress.
• Corporate revenues increased 82%, while government funding increased 6,000%.
• Organized higher education trade associations to aid in advocacy of Higher Education Reauthorization and other legislation relevant to HBCUs.
Mr. Green has worked tirelessly with congressional committee and subcommittee staff relative to the advocacy efforts of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, garnering enlarged support through TMCF for public HBCUs, and UNCF for private HBCUs.
