HOUSTON (June 25, 2009)— “If you give a man a fish he can eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he can eat for a lifetime.” That is exactly what is happening today at HoustonWorks USA Youth Summit 2009. This one day summit is directed to girls 13 – 17 who are currently or have previously been part of the Juvenile Justice System. Attendees will be provided with seminars from area leaders discussing worldly temptations, joys of college life, summer employment, internship opportunities, continuing education as well as receiving information on life assistant programs.
“I am very proud of this initiative,” said Mr. Larry Green, Esq. and CEO of HoustonWorks USA. “This summit is providing these young girls with real-world advice. Our speakers are talking with the girls and giving them advice on how they can turn their lives around and become successful members of society.”
The summit will be held at The United Way, 50 Waugh Drive, Houston from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.
“I was honored to be asked to be part of this very important workshop,” said Leta S. Parks, Associate Judge 247 District Court. “I see kids everyday in my court who are just lost and feel they have nowhere to turn. An annual summit like this, which highlights what programs are available, will mean so much to these young women. It will provide them with contacts for resources and show them, they are not alone.”
HoustonWorks USA has a long history with working individuals who are re-entering the job market and society as a whole. This summit will provide young women with the knowledge of resources available to them as well as assisting them in making a fresh start.
