HoustonWorks USA Announces 2011 Scholarship Program

Non Profit Continues to Assist Houston’s Youth

HOUSTON (December 8, 2010) – HoustonWorks USA today announced the guidelines for their annual scholarship program.  A leader in providing services to youth for more than 26 years, HoustonWorks USA has played an integral role in equipping youth to compete in a global economy. Through Youth Opportunity career centers, summer jobs and internship programs, scholarships and other workforce development programs, HoustonWorks USA is committed to serving youth in the Gulf Coast area.

“Helping to create a strong educated workforce is one of our core values at HoustonWorks USA,” said Jim Pritchett, HoustonWorks USA Board Member and Petris Technology, Inc. President and CEO.  “By helping these students continue their education through our scholarship program; we are helping them with their future, and also helping the Houston business community with a highly educated pool of potential employees.”

“We are very excited to announce our 2011 scholarships,” said Larry V. Green Esq. HoustonWorks USA CEO.  “HoustonWorks is committed to providing our community with a high performance workforce and one way to help achieve that goal is to assist our youth by making these dollars available for those going onto colleges, universities and trade schools.  Last year we provided more than $20,000 in scholarships and this year we hope to top that number.”

In the past four years, 30 students have been awarded more than $100,000 in financial support to pursue higher education.  Scholarship applications are due into HoustonWorks USA by Noon on Friday, March 18, 2011.  The Scholarship recipients will be honored at a Scholarship Luncheon in May 2011.  To help raise money for the scholarship program, HoustonWorks USA will be holding its annual Scholarship Golf Tournament and Bi-Annual Gala in October 2011, visit www.houstonworks.org for more information.
