
Founded in 1984, HoustonWorks USA celebrates more than quarter of a century of service to Houston residents and businesses. In honor of this momentous occasion, we are hosting our Annual Scholarship Awards Reception on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the United Way of Greater Houston.
2012 Scholarship Reception Sponsorship Levels
The 2012 HoustonWorks USA Scholarship Recipients are:
T.W. Hudson Scholarship- named after T.W. Hudson, HoustonWorks USA Executive Director from 1984 – 2007, this scholarship is awarded to a recipient seeking an apprenticeship or vocational training program.
- Chandler Smith, Lone Star College
Mary K. Merriman Scholarship – dedicated to the memory of HISD teacher and former HoustonWorks USA Board Member Mary Kay Merriman, this scholarship is awarded to a recipient working towards a degree in teaching or education.
- Jessica Manzano, Cy-Fair High School
HoustonWorks USA Scholarship – awards one scholarship to a child or grandchild of any HoustonWorks USA employee. This scholarship is solely funded by the HoustonWorks USA employees.
- Tyler Bryant, St. Pius X High School
Schlumberger Scholarships – awards two scholarships for students studying to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics). Schlumberger is a partner of the HoustonWorks USA STEM Institute.
- Thomas Fuller, Stratford High School
- Evan Wright, Baylor University
General Scholarships – awards five scholarships to students with high academic performance and community service.
- Wil Rios, MacArthur High School
- Maureen Fenninger, High School for Performing and Visual Arts
- Kirk Ward, Carver High School
- Cristian Martinez, Stafford High School
- Victoriano Flores III, Deer Park High School
