HoustonWorks USA’s STEM Institute, in partnership with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, is providing high school students an opportunity to advance their knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) during a one week residential engineering camp on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. The STEM RAYES (Residential Adventure for Young Engineers and Scientists) program provides students with real world experiences and hands-on activities focusing on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
This year, 50 students will have an opportunity to explore the world of engineering while experiencing college life. The program offers a learning environment which will encourage students to identify and solve problems while increasing their knowledge of engineering skills. Throughout the program, university faculty will work closely with students, giving them a deeper understanding of what is needed for them to be prepared to work in a global economy. Students will have the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge in multiple areas of engineering including civil, mechanical, chemical, nuclear, petroleum, electrical and computer engineering.
A major objective of the STEM RAYES camp is to educate, motivate, encourage and prepare high school students to start thinking about a college major in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
In addition to academic learning, students will also be introduced to college life by living in the Texas A&M resident halls, eating in the student cafeteria and learning about admission and financial assistance. Students will be closely supervised by qualified adult staff.
Information for the 2012 STEM RAYES Camp will be released shortly.
